Effect of Musical Training on Perception of Temporal Fine Structure Cues in Children
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of musical training on perception of temporal fine structure cues in children. Participants included 50 typical children within the age range of 8-10 years who were divided into two groups: Group 1 consisting of 25 musicians and group 2 consisted of 25 non musicians The participants in the first group were selected on the basis of more than one years of formal musical training in Carnatic music whereas that of group 2 had received no formal or informal musical training.Temporal fine structure perception was assessed in all the participants using TFS software package which is comprised of two modules, TFS1 (to determine TFS sensitivity at higher frequencies) and TFSLF (to determine TFS sensitivity at lower frequencies). Results showed that the mean TFS thresholds for musicians for all the frequencies were better than that of the non-

Relationship between Intelligence Quotient and Musical Ability in Children with Cochlear Implantation
Introduction: Children with cochlear implants (CIs) may experience few opportunities for positive musical experiences, and musical perception is therefore often not sufficiently developed. This paper investigates and discusses the relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and musical ability in children with CIs compared with children with normal hearing. ...

متن کاملEnhanced Syllable Discrimination Thresholds in Musicians
Speech processing inherently relies on the perception of specific, rapidly changing spectral and temporal acoustic features. Advanced acoustic perception is also integral to musical expertise, and accordingly several studies have demonstrated a significant relationship between musical training and superior processing of various aspects of speech. Speech and music appear to overlap in spectral a...
متن کاملDance Movements Enhance Song Learning in Deaf Children with Cochlear Implants
Music perception of cochlear implants (CI) users is constrained by the absence of salient musical pitch cues crucial for melody identification, but is made possible by timing cues that are largely preserved by current devices. While musical timing cues, including beats and rhythms, are a potential route to music learning, it is not known what extent they are perceptible to CI users in complex s...
متن کاملAdults and children processing music: an fMRI study.
The present study investigates the functional neuroanatomy of music perception with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Three different subject groups were investigated to examine developmental aspects and effects of musical training: 10-year-old children with varying degrees of musical training, adults without formal musical training (nonmusicians), and adult musicians. Subjects made...
